Maroon mk1 stabled at Hessay

Until around the late 1970s I seem to recall a maroon liveried BR mk1 coach seemingly permanently stabled outside the MoD depot at Hessay on the York-Harrogate line. I only ever saw it at a distance from the A59 road, hence details are sketchy. Does anyone know why it was there and how long its duration at Hessay was?

According to the Disused Stations website - see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/h/hessay/index.shtml - the former MOD sidings were used for storing some surplus stock from the National Railway Museum at York. Possible the Mk1 was part of that?
