Marlow to Zone 1/2

I am checking options for a journey from Marlow (MLW) to Arsenal (ZAM), not on a match day.

On the railforum site I'm getting

Received HTTP 422: No itineraries found for search

Is this search not possible for some obscure reason? On the face of it Marlow to Zones 1/2 or a Marlow Zone 1-6 Travelcard are the appropriate tickets. Assuming my timings avoid the now disallowed fast services on the Return, it would be the Off Peak with Senior Railcard tickets.

The expected route from Paddington would be H&C/Circle to Kings Cross, then Picc. I don't think a route via the Elizabeth would work that well as there isn't a direct connection between the Liz with the Picc.

Off Peak Day Return (Marlow to Zone U12* Londn) route Any Permitted would be £28.00, I think, or £18.60 with Senior Railcard discount. Arsenal tube station is in Zone 2. Cheaper through fares may be available if you restrict yourself to "route Ealing Common/West Acton" routeing.

You can't get a journey plan to a specific underground station as underground timetables are not held in the timetable database.

That would I think require changing at Ealing Broadway. That's time consuming from Maidenhead as the faster GWR services now only stop at Slough. Elizabeth Line trains stop at most stations.

But in this case you need to get off the train Paddington, get out of the barrier and in, and get on the train again, otherwise you will need a U12 fare to travel through beyond Paddington into the Elizabeth line on a through train.

I was mostly thinking about using the GWR Fasts, but yeah, if OP takes the EL, then it's not worth it

Understandably; it is much faster to plan to take GWR and change at Paddington than to take the Elizabeth Line from Maidenhead.

It does depend if the OP has an Oyster card or not. If not, it would mean going to Paddington underground station, buying an Oyster card for £7 (plus adding some PAYG credit) and asking staff to apply the Senior Railcard discount to it before continuing on to Arsenal.

The through ticket to U12 may be simpler, therefore. On the forum's ticketing site, just type in 'London Underground and DLR Zones 1-2' as the destination if going with this option.

The Travelcard is the same price (£ 18.60 without a split) and would have a bit of extra validity.
