Here is a a link to the RAIB Report into the derailment of 4L41 0805 Daventry to Felixstowe at Marks Tey Jct on 12th June 2008.

http://www.raib.gov.uk/cms_resources.cfm?file=/100114_R012010_MarksTey.pdf

Once again another Report which makes for depressing reading, cataloguing as always failures in NRs maintenance and with now the usual Recommendations.

Note also that NR propose to reduce the maintenance workforce by some 1800 people, despite the fact that workload (as at Grayrigg) was identified as a key issue. Talking of which there are still a number of Recommendations from there that have been inadequately (ineptly) dealt with.

So much for a World Class company.

Despite the fact that derailments continue under NRs stewardship at a greater rate than under the Infrastructure Maintenance Contractors, no-one seems to be bothered.

Presumably NR senior managers do not see a need to get there hands dirty with whats actually happening out there, preferring instead to continually issue grand statements about how good things are, which make Labour's lies and distortions pale into insignificance by comparison.

What other reason can there be for no-one within NR taking any decisive action to sort out what is clearly a serious problem ?

Interesting reading. Been long-standing problems with the drainage at Marks Tey, and the S&C in question still isn't in the best of shape. Hopefully the drainage issue has now been cured (or at least helped) with the recent track and drainage renewal works.

Its what they have been repairing over the last three weekend blocks.
