Marking progress of track covered

Over time I would like to cover all of the British track in passenger service. As I don't have a car this should gradually happen anyway. To mark my progress I could get a large printed map (or a copy of Stuart Baker's railway atlas) and highlight the lines I've covered. However, I'd like to ask if there's a better way of doing this?

As an example of what I would have in mind, the transport layer of openstreetmap https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=8/52.078/-1.807&layers=T clearly shows the railway lines in Great Britain. What would be handy is if a feature were built on top of this that allowed me to select the lines on the map that I've covered (and saved my progress). Does anyone know of anything like that being available?

You've got to get a Baker and highlight it, any other form of recording lines is heresy

Heresy is my method then.

I'm not concerned about individual tracks (up, down, fast, slow) so a digital copy of the National Rail passenger map, along with the fill tool of some basic image software, does the job for me.

I've got a copy of Baker, but as it was a present I'd feel a bit guilty about putting highlighting into it.

Maybe I will use one of the map image files. Although it would be nicer with something like openstreetmap because you can zoom in properly, and new lines would get added in the future e.g. HS2. Maybe if I end up with loads of time on my hands one day I'll see if that feature could be added (given that it's open source).

That's really good Kite. That's my style for track bashing. I don't worry about crossovers etc, just the routes. In the 80s you used to get a free fold out map with the Bible (BR all timetables book) which you could stick on the wall and colour in where you'd been.
Ah life was simple back then

I used to use the fold out maps too, but stick to my Baker atlas for general route coverage now. I also do track at crossover level detail, so I have the Trackmaps books for that too.
