Mark Honey RIP

It's with great sadness that I have to report the death from cancer of Mark Honey, one of the founders of Cargo-D.

Mark passed away yesterday evening.

He'll be sadly missed by family, friends and colleagues.

I echo Paul's sentiments. His a big loss to the industry, he dared to ask questions others wouldn't. His enthusiasm and positivity will be sorely lost. He was never negative during his fight, a real inspiration.

Mark was a member of this forum and occasional poster, though I expect many will know of him better from travelling on charter trains using the blue/grey Mk. 2 and Mk. 3 coaches which Cargo-D operate. I suspect quite a lot of people weren't even aware Mark had had a leg amputated back in 2008 when he was first diagnosed with cancer. He was back in circulation within weeks of having had the leg removed, and when I said to him that I thought the way he'd dealt with it was amazing, his response was something along the lines of "It will take more than that to stop me". Even thought he was obviously in pain, he still spent time walking up and down the train, rather than sitting at home feeling sorry for himself - as you quite rightly say, a real inspiration.

I've just found out about this. It's amazing how much passes by when your mobile phone is out of action...

This has really knocked me for six. I was talking to Mark about a month ago, and, although ill, seemed okay. He was a brilliant bloke, and I credit him and his ideas for a lot Retro Railtours' success (especially when it came to sourcing locos and making sure our tours operated as planned)

I'm not sure what else to say, other than RIP Mark. A really good mate and colleague.

Although I would have recognised him if I saw him, sadly I never properly met him, but I heard a lot about him. For anyone who doesn't know, there is a page about him on Cargo-D's website, he was certainly very active in a lot of areas. I know he cared a lot about Cargo D's customers and was very conscientious. Everyone I know who met him spoke very highly of him and I know he will be missed by many. Mark was a huge credit to the industry. RIP.

This is a shock as I had met him and been in semi-regular contact with him; had no idea he was ill. Very nice bloke.

I found out about the passing of Mark today and it has really taken me by shock.

I havent spoken to Mark in nearly 2 years, the last time being after he lost his leg. He was such a brave guy, and so dedicated to his business. I know Ingrid and the team will miss him very dearly.

Mark never let anything get him down, and even before he got his artificial leg, it never held him back. I remember many occassions sitting in a pub with him discussing.... well more like argueing... charter routes!

He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and will be missed by everyone.

My thoughts go out to his family, friends and work mates.
