While waiting for my connection at Crewe, there was a stansted express service waiting on platform 11, it was a 2x4 carriage train, it departed with 1 person on board using a laptop.

Can anyone tell me whay this train was all the way at Crewe. Cheers.

Ah, what you would've seen was a pair of 379's. They're the new trains for Stansted Express and until they're ready for traffic they're doing their mileage accumulation runs on the WCML with the sets working off Crewe. The person on the laptop you saw was most likely a technician to trace any bugs in the software so they can be ironed out before the trains enter service. Hope this helps.

yep, it was a 379 I saw x2, just checked now on wiki.
they do look smart i must admit.

so are they replacing any old stock that ATW might wana look at, lol.

They will be replacing 317s over on NXEA and with Wales distinct lack of wires at this moment in time I would suggest not

yh i just realised the lack of wires in wales, so wjere are the 317s going to then.

we have a situation where theres too many electric trains in this country, electrification is soo urgent now, sorry to go slightly of topic.
