Manually operated crossings

Do you mean MCB - manually controlled barriers? AHBs are, as the name suggests, automatic and not directly controlled from the box.

(edit: a quick look suggests that it’s actually barriers monitored by CCTV, but that the list is actually a list of gate boxes with the disclaimer that some might not control manually-worked gates, and there’ll of course be signal boxes not listed there that *do* control such crossings!)

Whyteleafe South is an odd one in that it’s a CCTV crossing but controlled from an office inside the station building. Unless that arrangement has changed in the last few years.

Re the crossing at Cracoe/Hetton/Rylstone on the Skipton-Swinden quarry branch
i watched the procedure with this.
loaded train from the quarry approaches the crossing and stops short of the gates. a man gets down and opens the gates. train goes through while the man watches. when its clear, man opens the air brake tap on the rear wagon to stop the train, closes the gates, then sets off to walk to the loco.
And its a bus route!

There's Astley crossing between Patricroft and Newton le Willows which is still gated. It's somewhat unusual though in that, whilst the gates are locked/unlocked by the adjacent signal box, the crossing is user worked. So I suppose it's a kind of hybrid
