What a bizarre name (I assume it's a rebrand/takeover?) - what next? Julie Rail? Darren Rail?

I'm absolutely not. It does happen quite a lot in business naming, it's just not always so obvious.

Shame they went the Mandy portmanteau, ANDARK Rail would have been quite a convincing name! You could place it being an unsuccessful early 2000s spot hire and freight operating company with a couple of rotten Class 47s and half a dozen unrefurbished Mk 2Ds in a poorly-applied inauthentic livery.

No reflection on Mandy Rail of course!

Plenty of companies are named after their founder or founders - look at Adidas and IKEA. I presume EG Steele was founded by someone of that name, who didn't even have the imagination to combine it with someone else's. Either that or they are a steel supplier that can't spell.

What do you mean? According to the OP they are the customer, and they are buying goods and services from EG.

Mandy Rail are a third-party wagon maintenance company that repair wagons out "in the field" in yards, sidings, terminals.

According to their website, E.G. Steele are now focused on the supply (and re-conditioning) of parts for wagons, so an agreement between the companies makes sense.

The E.G. Steele site at Hamilton used to be a wagon repair / workshop facility, but I don't think it's seen much use for this in recent years.

This is an interesting working from 2011, with 47739 moving former Rover KSA wagons to E.G. Steele for conversion to timber carriers:

The name "Mandy Rail" makes me think of Nicolas Cage and the 2018 surrealist action horror film "Mandy"
