Manchester's Disused Lines

Hi all,
Can anyone tell me some Easily Photographed Disused lines in the Manchester Area.
ive already covered the Middleton Branch and a couple of old sidings/loops, aswell as the junction to Mayfield Station and the Oldham Loop.

Are you looking for lines that still have the rails on them, if not I'd heartily reccomend the Rose Hill Marple - Macclesfield (renamed Middlewood Way) route which is now a dedicated path. It's a lovely walk, there's still remains of old platform at Higher Poynton and you get to walk over the viaduct at Bollington.

Warrington to Altrincham. Fantastic run with a couple of pubs and a co-op on the way.

There's still quite a bit of track around Trafford Park that's easy to access.

you can walk the old CLC from Godley Junction down to near Woodley, there is the old Fallowfield Line from Fairfield, Woodhead Line from Hadfield just look at an old railway map from 1965 and remove about half lol

There is still the slightly raised line formation in the fields where the Bury line diverged from its ORIGINAL trackway to Manchester to the direction of the old lines in the north of the Radcliffe area. You can see part of this from the Metrolink if you are sitting on the right-hand side of the tram going from Bury to Radcliffe. There seems to be one or two trackways in that area.

You say that you have already covered the Middleton branch, which has been without rails for a very long time. I used to commute to and from Manchester on this line until it closed in 1964. I am not sure of what remains of the line from Royton Junction to Royton, but there was much redevelopment in the area of Royton town centre. Many other areas to the north and south of Manchester are now being re-used for the trackbed of extensions to the Metrolink system.

Two pleasant walks in Salford (really!) are
- part of the old line from Patricroft to Clifton Junction. You can access the walk from Monton Road in Monton and walk as far as the East Lancs Road (A580).
- Monton Green to Walkden (Low Level). You pass the remains of Worsley station en route, where the platforms are still visible.

You have also got the old ashton to oldham line from clegg street thru park bridge and a tunnel just outside ashton.

There is the line formation from West Timperley to Partington. Sinderland Road offers access points in the earlier part of the route. The rails were lifted in recent times, as Octel used to send three trains a week from the Partington Industrial Complex in the 1990's.

You can walk the former Whelley Loop (along with some former quarry branches) through Haigh Hall.
