Day off between shifts so i thought id make the most of the summer remaining .
Been recently trying to make the effort to do all the lines , more like services !
Living in Scotland means that its been a case of chipping the ol block .
Decided on a wayfarer to do some new lines around Manchester .
0737 VTWC pendo from Glasgow to Wigan , was slightly late but with Wigan Wallgate just across the road made it on time for the 1024 NT service to Manchester Victoria . This was an express and section to Salford was new to me , impressed by the amount of construction in Manchester .

Next up was to walk to Piccadilly to catch the 1147 NT service to Buxton , which was a 150 . New section for me was Stockport to Buxton .Nice scenery in the latter stages . Decided on train back , after a very quick walk down into Buxton . Didn't realise how close Derbyshire is to Manchester , do they have a different accent ?
Returned to Manchester and onto the Rose Hill Marple service , had this in my mind this is a 323 service , boy i was wrong , a double pacer set . Only a few got off at Rose hill and i returned straight back , the rear 142 was locked out of service for some reason . I got off at Romiley , where i waited for 150 via Bredbury as this was new too .
Next up was Hadfield and Glossop , which was a 323 , is this line always a 323? Wasnt sure of the triangle arrangement but we didnt use the north chord , may have to find a service that does that in future which is a bit annoying .

Returned to Piccadilly for the last time . Last bit of new track was Bolton via Westhoughton bit . Only had 30 minutes connection so a swift walk to Victoria for the 1754 service to Wigan North Western ,didnt realise until today that you can go this way into Wigan North Western , another 150 2 x set .

On arrival at NW , caught a very quiet Blackpool bound voyager , certainly noticed the smell but also the larger windows .
At preston caught a delayed pendo up to Glasgow.

A very busy day , still a bit to do such as east of Manchester Victoria up to Todmorden and Stalybridge .

Next tragets are Ikley , Harrogate , Penistone line . And Wigan to Liverpool via Kirkby

The 3rd side of the Dinting triangle is used during peak times and also during leaf fall season.

Sounded like a good trip to the Manchester area :)

It sounds like you had a good day out.

I thought the Buxton line was very scenic and very much underrated

I've still loads of lines to clear around the Manchester area.

Think you have to have a bus pass to qualify for the senior version rather than a rail card

I stayed a few days in Manchester in February last year, and did 3 days with Wayfarers just before the price increased. Back then the Senior version was only £6 and available for anyone over 60. It was a few months later that they made it bus pass holders only. I was lucky becuase I had just reached 60 at the time but won’t be getting my bus pass until I am 66.

I had real problems getting drivers on buses to accept the Senior ticket during my stay. My Wayfarers were purchased from Picadilly Station and were printed on standard rail ticket stock with the words ‘rail rover’ prominantly printed on them, and no mention of bus and tram validity. As well as looking like a rail ticket, I think the main problem puzzling bus drivers was the cheap price at less than a First Day Ticket. I had a couple of bus drivers absolutely refuse to accept it was valid.

And the good thing with the wayfarer is that it be valid in the evening peak :)

Yeah , would be highly inconvenient if it wasn't. I was looking at the Yorkshire one and think the Merseyside tickets and they are not valid in evening peaks !
