Sold at auction in Derby on Saturday for £40,000.
Ooops! The buyer returned the next morning, took the backboard off and said it looked quite modern and not as though it dated back to 1937.

As a reproduction, it is now only expected to be worth £500.
It had been expected to fetch up to £100,000.

i find this amusing. There was all sorts of hype that it could fetch anything up to 60K, so 40K would have been a bit of a disappointment anyway.

i expect Sir Alex has the real one.

Should do, if they have described it as genuine and it isn't then it is their responsibility. I am very surprised it got through, usually auction houses have specialists check these things over, particularly such a high value item. Someone is going to get a hell of a bollock over that!
