Manchester to Nuneaton (Can anyone do this cheaper)

I have a priv and am planning to travel to Nuneaton and back in the same day. The split I have worked out so far is as follows.

Manchester to Stoke on Trent - 12.20 return virgin only - £3.05 priv
stoke on Trent to Stafford - 6.30 return = £1.60 priv
Stafford to Nuneaton - 9.40 return not via Birmingham = £2.35 priv

So the total for the combination would be £7 (could make it cheaper by using my staff pass to travel to stoke but I'd rather use the quicker service).

Anyone with a better insight into it? Can it be made any cheaper?

Bear in mind that you'll need to get trains that stop at wherever you split the tickets for such a combination, per Condition 19(b) of the National Rail Conditions of Carriage, as you're not using a Season Ticket to cover part of the journey.

Oh trust me I know that only too well. I'm a guard and I know tickets and conditions. The train from manchester to stoke would be virgin trains which is covered no issue. The stoke to nuneaton service is a london midland service which stops at stafford en route to nuneaton. I checked this first.

In any instance, very few Virgin services stop between Stoke and Milton Keynes anyway leaving the aforementioned the only realistic option for most of the day.
