Hi, i'm looking for some ticketing advice although I'm probably pushing sand uphill on this one...

I travel from Manchester to Newcastle at least twice a month, leaving on a Friday after 6pm and returning Sunday evening. As National Express have decided to charge full price both ways the train offers a nominal increase and a more convenient opportunity to leave after 6 on the Sunday.

I've found that changing at York using Advance tickets has got the price down to on average £21 each way but is there any way to get this down further? I appreciate it's wishful thinking but i'm sure if anyone has the answer it's on here!

Would appreciate any ideas on how to get the cost down using alternative stations to change or if it's just a case of booking at the earliest possible time!

If you have a 16-25 Railcard, TPE will give an extra 25% discount on online bought advances.

If you know now done dates you'll be travelling in the coming couple of months, TPE have a sale on their advance tickets which may help a bit. Have to be booked by Thursday, though

Not quite - it is 50% off rather than 34% off.

There is the current sale that gets an extra 25% off the 34% (with YP) if that makes sense (sorry, numbers galore!)

While this is correct, the prices work out the same. The difference between the current sale and the "Students" promotion (open to all 16-25 Railcard holders) is that the "Students" promotion only offers discounts on Standard Class Advances whereas the current sale also offers discounts on First Class Advances.
