Manchester Stations - Salford

Hi all.

My query is this: purchasing an off-peak return from Manchester Piccadilly to Salford Crescent is £1.80, however it is £1.60 for a return to Salford Central, which involves travel via Salford Crescent.

Is it allowed to buy this cheaper ticket and simply get off at Salford Crescent?

I don't think its technically valid, as the fare would be from Manchester Stns to Salford Central.

This would mean taking a train from Manchester Victoria.

Although saying this National Rail enquiries will offer me an iteinary via Salford Crescent from Manchester Piccadilly to Salford Central.

I think (can't check atm) it is within 3 miles of the shortest route anyway.

Alright, it was more curiosity than being eager for a 20p saving.

Although I imagine if it were valid to cut this journey short having started at Piccadilly rather than Victoria, it would add up to something over the course of the year.
