Manchester-Redruth Deley Repay Query

A friend of mine is on their way back to Redruth from Manchester Piccadilly, unfortunatly their train (12:05 Manchester Piccadilly-Exeter) got into Exeter St Davids 8 mins late meaning they missed their connection they were booked on (16:20 GWR service from Exeter St Davids-Penzance).

Can they still claim Delay Repay as they will be getting into Redruth over an hour later than planned? And do they claim it off Cross Country even the Cross Country service was only 8mins late at Exeter?

I see that there was timetabled to be 8 minutes between the arrival in Exeter of the train from Manchester and the subsequent departure of the train to Redruth. The minimum connection time at Exeter St Davids is 6 minutes, so the itinerary with an 8-minute connection time was a valid itinerary for delay repay purposes. Unless something else goes wrong, the delay is the fault of Cross Country, and the delay repay claim should be made to them.

Yes, they can claim it, and it is CrossCountry that are liable, as they were the company that caused the journey as a whole to become delayed. They would be liable even if the GWR service got delayed down the line, meaning the total delay was, say, 2 hours - it is about the first company causing the journey to become delayed.
