Manchester pullman. mk2 rolling stock

HI. This is my first thread on this site. DId the mk2 stock in intercity livery carry the pullman name on the side of the coach? Being from Australia books and info on this are lacking. Cheers

Welcome to the forum.

Hurst Models (who make 4mm scale parts for them (Link)) seem to think they did carry 'pullman' where others carried 'Intercity' with the car name in white on the red stripe midway down the coach. I have never seen an actual picture of the coaches in Intercity livery though.

Mk3b Pullmans had 'InterCity Pullman' branding on Intercity livery with a white painted name above the Pullman crest midway down the coach (Link).

Assuming you mean raspberry ripple livery and the train was branded as the "Lakeland Pullman"
The script was "Pullman" with the majority of the names being associated with the Lake District

As above, the newer Mark 3b coaches were primarily used on revenue earning InterCity services, so the script used on these was "InterCity Pullman"

Alright it is a Mk3 but it is a Pullman in Inter City Livery

I think he means the Lakeland set when it was still in daily use on the Manchester Pullman; certainly in 1987 when the rake was in InterCity livery having just been transferred to the then charter unit the carriages did indeed carry the word Pullman ( without the InterCity ) at the left of each carriage side; there is a picture in the 1988 combined volume...

The 1985 combined volume also carries a picture of them thus branded, this time actually on the Manchester Pullman service in 1983.

According to the Ian Allan BR Motive Power Combined Volume 1988, book.
The following Mk2's carried Intercity Pullman Livery;

504 Ullswater
506 Windermere
546 Coniston Water
548 Grasmere
549 Bassenthwaite Lake
550 Rydal Water
551 Buttermere
552 Ennerdale Water
553 Crummock Water
586 Derwent Water

These former Manchester Pullman cars were refurbished and air-braked during 1986/87 and re-entered service for the InterCity Charter carrying Lakeland names.

I knew those names rang a bell, those were the coaches, now in Pullman brown/cream livery, that were used on The West Highland & Jacobite Statesman I went on last October. Yeah, they are the same coaches. They've just been through a change of ownership since BR days.
