Hi, will be doing above journey in the near future, is it quicker and easier to go via sheffield or via nottingham, needs to be tpe service. Cheers in advance for any help, apologies for any typos, using the weans tablet to post.

You could only catch a TPE service as far as Sheffield then you would need to catch a Northern service to Worksop and then an EMT service to Mansfield.

Or you could catch a TPE to Sheffield, EMT to Chesterfield, then local bus to Mansfield.

Cheers folks, I know its tpe to sheffield then nt and em, my pass is valid on tpe. Someone told me they went via nottingham so was just checking best route with yous in the know. Also, are the trains really busy between sheffield and worksop/ mansfield, will have our elderly inlaws travelling with us, cheers.

From recent experience, the the late afternoon Northern services between Sheffield and Worksop can be busy. I've caught the one leaving around 16:30 a few times now. and that's been full to standing. Every time I've been on Worksop-Mansfield, there's been plenty of space.

I recommend the cafe on Worksop platform 2!

Manchester to Mansfield is the same price whether you go via Worksop or Nottingham, but that is with a through ticket. Worksop is the shorter route by mileage but via Nottingham sometimes can be quicker when travelling from Mansfield to Manchester because of the long wait for a connection at Worksop for Sheffield.

However, if you are travelling with a TPE pass from Manchester to Sheffield and then have to pay for a Sheffield to Mansfield ticket, Sheffield to Mansfield via Worksop is considerably cheaper than via Nottingham.

Very slow as it stops everywhere & is 1 hr 20 mins. The traction is often 142s! Very testing. Make sure you use the TPE or East Midlands service.
