I was just checking the current train running at Manchester Piccadilly, with the ongoing disruption, and noticed a lot of platform swaps and nothing's using platform 8. Is there an infrastructure fault or a failed unit blocking it?

Signalling fault means P8 is out of use. News item from this morning but it's clearly gone on longer.

Manchester Piccadilly platform shut off with trains cancelled as chief issues apology

"Clare Waller, area director for Manchester at Network Rail, said in a statement: "I'm sorry for delays to passengers this morning due to a problem with the signalling system at Manchester Piccadilly station." She explained that a cabling fault is preventing the use of platform 8 and assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issue promptly."
