Just a few questions about thus service which are :-

A-When it arrives at Man Pic where does it go to turn back ?

B-I have noticed recently that ATW have been using 158s again on this service on one or two diagrams is this a regular thing now or just a shortage of 175s.

C-What is the total journey time from END to END ?

it arrives in the termini platforms (1-12) and turns back, bear in mind it arrives via Stockport

I presume your thinking about the Manchester - South Wales services which do indeed arrive/depart via Stockport.

It arrives from Oxford Road (as it goes via Warrington) into P13. After a couple of minutes to detrain passengers and checks, the unit is then shunted into a turnback loop just south of the station. When it's getting close to departure time again, it is then shunted into P14, and away it goes.

175103 just leaving P13 on the ECS shunt

A 175 can be seen stabled in the loop in the background

Nice photos David. However the gutted signal box was called London Road. Until elecrification in the 1960s the station was called London Road and the old manual signal boxes that controlled it were similarly named. With electrification came new signalling controlled by this new box. Only late in the day was the station renamed but the box retained the old name (it would have cost to rename the box - for no commercial advantage).

A story I heard in the early 70s (but can't verify) was that the original idea was to close the station and extend the line across Ducie Street to the corner of Newton Street, where it would overlook Piccadilly Gardens and justify the new name. Not surprisingly the idea got no further than a feasability study, but they hung on to the new name for the refurbished station.

If they leave and enter via Stockport, how comes they arrive via Oxford Road?

It's the Manchester - South Wales services that go via Stockport (to Crewe, Shrewsbury and down to Cardiff). The Manchester - North Wales services go via Oxford Road, Newton-le-Willows, Warrington to Chester and Llandudno.

with reference to 158s working service rather than 175's, mainly because it seems at the moment they're either broken or seriously late displacing stock which seems to have been a bit of a problem on the marches at the moment. Saw a 150/2 on a Milford - Manchester earlier - oh dear!

Personaly i think 158s are better as they are more comfortable and you allways know where the bike space is.

175s keep to the timings much better which admitted is much needed on the Marches anyway, a 175 late off cardiff by about 10mins can normally of made the time back up between Hereford and Shrewsbury

Thats untill it goes on fire
I do like the 175s but find that the table seats are in the wrong places and you never know which end the bike space is going to be and when you do threes ether a pram in there or luggage.

Hence the 158s retain the portioned section for bikes I’ve never noticed any difference with the times as it’s very rare that one runs very late as the timing seems quite good on this route unlike most other long distance routes as it is very rare to see a train running very late on this route with a 175 or 158.

What are the chances of a 158 being on this route next Saturday?

lol reliability is a problem with them, as I don't travel with a bike that wouldn't bother me, and no offence but as a dispatcher I find bikes a pain in the arse, especially when you get a bunch of chavs all turn up with their bmx's and expect to all get on lol - not a personal dig honest.

I see delays daily on this route but then again I work at the main interchange with this line from the GWML.

No idea with the 158 , don't really tend to know until the day really but I would imagine there will be at least a few workings, possibly a holyhead.

Class 175's are still booked to work all Llandudno's, again two services being worked by a 2-car 175, the rest worked by 3-car ones.

Also there are more 175's on Cardiff-Holyhead now, I think all but one in the Holyhead-Cardiff direction are worked mostly by 175's, possibly with one worked by a 2-car 175 and one worked by a 158, the rest - 3 carriage 175's.
Also all Manchester-South Wales booked as 175's, again mostly 3-carriages I think.

Correct.

Also the Holyhead - International services (and Cambrian ovbiously) are now booked for 158's, as there is joining and splitting at Shrewsbury to add capacity on the Shropshire Corridor.

According to an addition on Wiki, just a technical problem with the servers, and due back online later this evening.

It is a serve rissue not a liquidation issue apparently. However if you didn't keep hard disk / CD / DVD copies of photos you uploaded then as ever it is caveat empor, or don't be so silly.
