This might be a bit tenuous for 'Infrastructure' but there are plans to open a Tap pub in Manchester Piccadilly (from the owners of the Sheffield and York Taps).

"The folk behind the Euston Tap, only a Pendolino ride away are to open in Manchester Piccadilly at the other end of the line. This will be a serious addition to a station complex that is trying to up its food and drink game. If it replicates its Euston offering of eight rotating cask ales, 20 on keg, plus 150 bottled beers, it should make missing a train or two de rigueur."

As TGI Fridays have recently opened in the previously vacant unit adjacent to M&S Food, I'm not aware of any units currently vacant.

Is the lease on one of the other units near its end date?

I'd go to the station just to visit a pub like the Euston Taps one. And leave a lot lighter for pence, probably.

When I was in Manchester the other week a pint was already at London prices so the Tap pricing structure may not be too much of a shock for the locals.

That's a pub crawl nailed. Start at Stalybridge (1) then Picc (1), then Pendopinto with a couple in first-class, to Euston (1) then back (2) to Picc for the final (1).

Good job the journey doesn't go anywhere near Huddersfield!

A Pendo dosent really count as a crawl though does it!

I've previously had an idea of doing a 'Tap' crawl, ie York Tap, Harrogate Tap, Tapped Leeds, Sheffield Tap, Euston Tap and Cider Tap. At this rate, we'll have to do an 'East' and 'West' one!

We thought it might come to Victoria in the current "Pumpkin Bar" which is currently utterly dire.

Seems to fit better with their previous chosen locations, I dont know where it would go at Piccadilly. The Mayfield is probably going to want to move out? Who knows it might be outside the station like the Euston Tap

Mayfield is the bottom of Wetherspoons quality scale, Hour Glass isn't bad, bit upmarket for me but nice layout and view, sports and train times displays, always busy.

Victoria would have been more useful for me !

Still, Picc it is.

A proper real ale bar would be a welcome addition as there's not a great deal in the Piccadilly environments. About the best pub in the area is the wonderfully basic Jolly Angler on Ducie Street, but it's that bit too far from the station if you only have 30 minutes or so to change trains.

I regularly leg it to Port Street Beer House when I've got 30 minutes or so to wait. I can get from there to Platform 13 in about 7.5 minutes if I run like heck.

+1 for port street.

The pub at Victoria isn't bad, but the draught selection isn't great, and the stairs to the platforms aren't pleasant.

Bull's Head

Can't get much closer without being in the station itself. Excellent pint of Wychwood Piledriver in there the other week - gave it my highest score of the year on What Pub. Bit pricey but it is the London of the North.
