Location
Wilmslow
  • HV + HA
  • MG + GN
  • MK + MN

at https://rgpp.iblocks.co.uk/maps

So Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, Middlesborough all valid on the simplest MN map.

You should be able to look up more esoteric but permitted routes with the other map combinations.

Carlisle is one of these.

I'm sure Carlisle used to be valid.
It is (MG+GN), as is going via Doncaster / Sheffield.

I think valid routes therefore include
  • Manchester – (direct) Carlisle – Newcastle
  • Manchester – Bolton – Wigan – Carlisle – Newcastle
  • Manchester – Wigan – Carlisle – Newcastle
  • Manchester – Bolton – Blackburn – Preston – Carlisle
  • The above via Barrow-in-Furness instead of Penrith
  • The above via Lancaster and Hellifield instead of Penrith (I think)
  • Manchester – Clitheroe – Hellifield – Carlisle – Newcastle
  • Manchester – Clitheroe – Hellifield – Lancaster – Penrith / Barrow – Carlisle (I think)
