Manchester Metrolink: Fallowfield Loop

I think this is a bit pessimistic as plenty of other European cities the size of Manchester have metros.

Of course it would have to be Milan standard or Oslo standard and not London standard, but I think that would be worth it.

If you don’t run a bus more often than that then people will drive instead. Buses have to be turn up and go.

Oxford-Swindon and Oxford-Witney run every 20 minutes and Oxford-Aylesbury runs every 15 minutes, so clearly within a big city suburban buses could run at a decent frequency.

Manchester does have some orbital buses with reasonable frequency. For example the 23 which runs from Stockport to The Trafford Centre every 20 minutes. The service does not pass Fallowfield, using Barlow Moor Road to go through Chorlton instead. As the 23 goes through Didsbury it parallels a large part of the East Didsbury line.

I would be delighted if Manchester did get an underground, but it is unlikely. It is also much more likely that there would be an underground than any orbital Metrolink on the Fallowfield Loop.

Orbital Metrolink is still in the long grass across the North and East of Manchester.
