Manchester Metrolink Driver

Morning Ladies n Gents.

I have put in for a job with Metrolink in my home city of Manchester after getting a little fed up in my current job after 20 years service.

I was just wondering If any one has any advice at all? Anything really as I am completely new to all this.

I applied after leaving university, I passed the written exam, but failed the interview apparently for taking too long to think about my answers to questions, I thought it was strange really because I`d just complete a 12,000 dissertation on Metrolink as part of a Bsc hons degree, 2.1, I`d also completed a Masters Degree on Heavy rail networks in selected European Countries

Wow, thats harsh got me thinking twice now about this one as I'm not the best in interviews although once in a job like currently I like to think I'm ok.

I do have a slight problem though in attending the first induction or what ever they call it as they want me there this coming Monday but can't get the time of work to attend as it's too short notice why do they do that.

Good question! Friend of mine applied a few weeks back but failed at the first hurdle! I applied a few weeks back - after he told me and now just got a response so in answer to your question, not sure!

Does anyone have a rundown of the process? Is it a test then a interview??

Actually they did me a favour, I later found a much better job working for the Government, unofficial word got back to me that I was over qualified, please don`t let that put you off applying.

Yes test first, then wait for the results in the post, next an interview, but it was an informal affair in the 90`s when I did it, not very professional really, but they were pleasant enough. The test was mainly related to reading timetables and the 24 hour clock.

Do you do the 'dot' test thingy first? I think that is what my mate failed on but not 100%.

I am working Monday and I can't get the time off - thinking about going sick although that is something I don't want to do to be honest, the fella on the phone said, don't worry If you can't make it we'll put you on the 'next one'

What would you guys do? I am thinking I don't want to miss the chance thinking I may not get the call next time!

I am pretty sure it's a person, that fella I spoke to told me the person dealing with the applications was on leave so he had to fill in and admitted he didn't know who's been contacted or hasn't
