Manchester Mayfield

Just went by the old Mayfield station on a train to Piccadilly. The old Mayfield station building was lit up with floodlights and there were a lot of people wandering around on the old platforms.

Anyone know what was going on?

They like using it for filming a lot, and thinking about what's been set in Manchester recently I would guess at 'No Offence'.

Set on the historic and vast Mayfield site, a historic former railway station, Everything that happened and would happen is part-performance and part-construction site. It’s a reenactment of history, always on the verge of collapse – only to be rebuilt as if nothing had happened. The work features twenty performers and musicians and fuses live music, performance and large-scale multimedia installations.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread.

How isolated from the Picadilly throat is the old Mayfield station these days? Is there a proper fence?

Also, has anything been done to make the old platforms safe? (eg. fencing off the edges to stop people falling onto the "track".)

I'm asking in light of today's announcement that the station is to be used for a major event next summer (Manchester Pride).

I'm asking in light of today's announcement that the station is to be used for a major event next summer (Manchester Pride).

The only connection between Mayfield approaches and Piccadilly approaches is the bridge over Temperance Street. Mayfield approaches are completely fenced from the top of the carriage drive, around the platform ends and across to the far side of the arches that the station stands on.

I assume that all events will then use their own edge and drop and perimeter protection depending on the particular requirements and scope of the event. There are staircases, unroofed masonry and other concerns that will be taken in to account.
