I have been advised that the routing guide for Manchester - London includes :-

Routing guide allows:

CM+GC (Manchester - Birmingham/Coventry, then Birmingham/Coventry to Marylebone/Paddington via Banbury

MM+PS (Manchester - Sheffield via Hope Valley, then Sheffield - London St Pancras via Derby/Nottingham)

CS (Manchester - Birmingham/Coventry, then Birmingham/Coventry to Marylebone via Banbury/Reading/Redhill)

Does it follow that I could travel from Manchester to Tame Parkway (ignoring the fiddly bit with BNS) and then a WSMR service to Marylebone?

Barnes (BNS) isn't shown on any of those maps, so I'm not sure where Barnes comes into it ;)

I assume you are referring to Birmingham Group, which consists of Birmingham Moor St (BMO), Birmingham New St (BHM), Aston (AST) and Duddeston (DUD) if my memory is correct (the ATOC list is broken at the moment! See the current list if you want a laugh!).

Birmingham Group's fiddly bits are shown as one big blob. All the lines are not shown. The group is shown as a single 'point'.

Current guidance is that station names are used the first time a station is mentioned, after that you can use the CRS codes, but please only use correct codes. LLS is not London Liverpool Street, nor is it Liverpool Lime Street, for example. Often the codes can be guessed, but if you do need to look them up, they can be found here or here. CRS codes are also accepted in Avantix Traveller, ticket machines, ticket booking websites, Live departure boards, and all good journey planners.

Anyway, the route is valid.
