No 319's running at weekends according previous messages.

Also noted a 319379 at Stockport carriage sidings yesterday and another 319 in the sidings just to the north of Preston station. I assume these are being used for training.

319366 is at Preston - both unfurbished units and unable to be used on NR passenger trains, hence allocated for "Driver Training".

I'm getting the train from Eccles to Oxford Road this afternoon, did I read the 319's aren't running weekends yet?

Pete

It will be some time before they call at Eccles. May is talked of, but few hard facts or firm promises are in the public domain.

Just thought it'd be the 319's on the new airport service as I've never caught a train from Eccles to Oxford Rd.

If they follow the intended weekend timetable, Eccles-Oxford Road should run on Sundays when the Airport service makes more stops.
So whenever they start 319s on Sundays, they should stop at Eccles.
Other days the only service from Eccles runs to Victoria which is not wired yet.

If the end to end time could be got down to less than 1 hour Inc turn round 2 rather than the current 3 units I think per route would be required.

I would like to add my thanks to all who have reported on this topic. Went from St. Helens to Preston yesterday (7 March), and there was still a gap in the wiring at Springs Branch, at least on the westbound ( towards Liverpool) line; could not see the wiring on the other side from where I was sitting.

That does appear to be one of the sticking points between Huyton to Wigan, along with Carr Mill.

Progress still continues at Victoria. Some more metal work is now ingeniously attached onto the east end footbridge.:D

I passed Springs Branch Junction last night (8th March) heading south on the mainline and it looked to me as if the wires over both tracks extended around the curve and onto the mainline.

I'm not completely sure though, as we were going quite fast, it was twilight and I was on the opposite side of the train to the junction.

Passing through towards Wigan today, there was a full set of wires over Springs Branch Jn, spliced into the WCML wires.
Carr Mill looked ccomplete too.
Couldn't see the Up line.
There was an auto-tensioner without wires at St Helens, otherwise the branch looked finished.
Wires from Ince Moss towards Bamfurlong too.

Surely not too long for Huyton to Wigan now?

Paul and I visited the Haresfinch area of St Helens, Carr Mill Viaduct and Springs Branch Junction today, by car and on foot.

We agree that to us landlubbers it looks done and dusted.

Decided against mudwallowing to Bamfurlong Sidings Junction to see if the southeastern end of the Ince Moss Chord is wired up to the WCML, as it was chucking it down.

Photos later.

Welcome back LNW-GW Joint.

Apart from four sets of 319's outside Allerton this morning all in Northern colours, with one set ready for the road for driver training (no seats fitted ) noticed they have finished extending the 'siding' that runs up towards Hunts X adjoining the Merseyrail line, complete with OHLE as well.

That's interesting to know

Thanks for this, and welcome to this thread.

I think (usual caveats) that the siding is a headshunt, where headshunt is to siding as turning circle is to parking slot.

I notice from this morning's schedules that the 7.35am MIA - Lime Street service is listed as 'cancelled- train fault.'

I thought on later it was called a headshunt, but at the time of writing couldn't recall the right term. Thanks. Also noticed they are in the process of removing the electric third rail on this headshunt.

I thought there is a least one spare unit at present which could have been used to replace the failed unit.
