Just a quick query :D

Is it possible to buy the £5.30 Manchester daysaver valid on bus and train on the train?

I did ask at my local railway station (Leeds) but none of the staff had heard of it.

NRE says, "Daysaver tickets can be purchased at manned stations or from bus drivers".

The price seems to have gone up to £5.80

Thanks for that bb21, the thing is, I'll be splitting my journey between Leeds and Manchester so I'll need to get the ticket before I get to a Manchester station or a bus.

There is a "System One DaySaver" with various options for combined travel, or the Greater Manchester Wayfarer (not to be confused with the Derbyshire Wayfarer - which overlaps!) for a much wider area.

Hi Yorkie, the daysaver will be fine as I'm only staying in Greater Manc, however I need to buy the ticket somewhere :D

It is in the system and Leeds should be able to issue it. I don't know whether a special pouch is needed for use on buses but I suppose you can get it from a ticket office in Manchester once you arrive(?)

The other thing I'm not sure about is whether it should be issued on dedicated stock. If so then Leeds probably wouldn't have it.

The code for the pass you require is H004, shown as 'Daysaver TB'. Avantix will bring it up if you enquire from a GM station such as Eccles - H004. The current price is £5.80

Daysavers are issued on standard stock, any station in the country should be able to issue them. The origin station printed on the Daysaver must be in the GM area though.

That's not true!

It is impossible for a station to set the issuing location on a ranger or rover, (which this product is set up as). There is no "origin".
(Try 1072 to H004 in Avantix NFM10).

It will say:
All usual standard ranger/rover text....
Issued at: (e.g.) INVERNESS (or blank if issued by Avantix)
Available: GM DaySaver TB or whatever....

Also, the use of NLC/CRS codes is entirely pointless when it comes to issuing ranger/rover products as it only searches for the product name, (e.g. Csts Pk 4in8).

Just to pre-warn you, some bus drivers don't like these daysaver tickets from train staions/guards as they are printed on rail tickets! For some reason, they see a rail ticket and just presume its not valid. You have to point out the ticket type to some of them... I have bought one from a train guard before so doesnt hafta be a station

That's good news - If Leeds doesn't come up with the goods I can always buy on the train.

Not been so bad recently, but I usually bring the leaflet with me just in case. If the bus driver looks perplexed say "Daysaver ticket", if he examines it carefully, point out that the "Daysaver TB" designation means it is valid on train and bus. If all else fails, point to to driver the sign on his bus which says "System One tickets accepted" - that's only ever failed once for me !

Yeah daysavers are on normal stock, you would need a System One ID card for the 7 day or longer versions. You get that by taking a passport photo to one of the TfGM travelshops.

Daysaver tickets are only valid in the GM area, just like inboundary Travelcards are only valid in the Travelcard area. I'd love to see a 1072 to H004 ticket issued, cheapest ticket from London you'll ever see!

And why do you need to go to the rover screen? Fastis issues them on the normal sales screen (just like Countycards and Traincards are on season screen).

I know they are only valid in GM, but there is never an "origin" printed on a ranger/rover which is what the DaySaver TB is set up as, (not a point to point ticket).

If it is printing an origin, no wonder bus drivers are refusing them, but certainly Northern FasTIS print as ONE DAY RANGER. Issuing location can be anywhere, it is the AVAILABLE bit which is important.

In this picture the "issued at" is whatever station the machine is installed at.

Well, like I say, I only issue them everyday.

If you choose to go through the rover menu you can't set the origin that is true, if you issue it straight from the main screen (as I do) you have to set the origin to a station in the GM area (or a London station apparently) otherwise Fastis won't find it.

Looking back, I was perhaps in error saying "printed on the ticket" but Fastis lists the origin station on the normal sale screen. Call it a typo if you wish.

First bus drivers in Huddersfield/Halifax don't like Plusbus tickets very much either!

I use PlusBus tickets irregularly but have used them 5 or 6 times now, in Stockport they either nod or ask what it is and let me on. I've not had a problem.

I used a Manchester one up to Kearsley which I'm not sure is valid but got away with it, I thought ones to Stockport/Manchester were valid in the whole GMPTE area :s

I've had a GM Evening Rail Ranger before now issued at Halifax (with that on the ticket) with no problems (I did have a couple of tickets to get to Littleborough.

Theres four zones, Manchester (covering 7 of the Boroughs but only Prestwich and further east in Bury and not Rochdale) and Bolton (which includes all of Wigan and a line as far east as Bury-Whitefield), then Rochdale which covers all of Oldham like Manchester does but Rochdale too and finally Altrincham which covers only a small area around it.

Edit: Looked it up and they include GM county in addition to the specific local areas marked out, which for all of them is near enough within GM borders anyway, why it couldnt just picture the whole county instead of local maps I dont know.

Plusbus seems to cover the entire county in each PTE area - but none of them show the entire map - and they tend not to be seen often as there's lots of other day tickets in the areas.

Funnily enough, I tried this yesterday, giving the codes and ticket names provided by yourselves.

First, on the train to Leeds. The guard attempted to put the code in but could get no joy on the ticket.

Second time I tried at Leeds station, but even though the code showed up (the lady in the booking office even turned the screen round to show me), there wasn't a way to print it out. The consensus seemed to be that it needed its own ticket stock.

Thirdly, I tried on the train which was going to Manchester, and the guard again said he couldn't print it out because it needed its own ticket stock. He suggested I brought it from a station in Manchester.

It seems a bit silly that I was unable to buy the said ticket. What do people do if the ticket office in one of the Manchester stations is closed?

Well, that's usually the case with PTE tickets such as the Merseytravel Saveaway. They're primarily for people living in the area, who would buy them from stations or sometimes from newsagents and the like.

System One DaySavers definitely do not have their own stock. They either come on Bus Tickets or Standard Orange Stock. If you buy a Bus Saver 7/Country Card/Train Card the retailer (Corner Shops,TfGM travelshop etc...) HAVE to put it in a special wallet (they have to use the current design and cannot use an old design if they run out of the current and still have old wallets). If you buy it at a station you get the later two on special stock iirc, but not with the Day Tickets.

Even if you follow that argument, If a fully paid up Mancunian got on the train at an unstaffed station in Manchester, he would have had a job getting the ticket. Particularly if he were heading to Victoria for example, where you need the ticket to get through the barrier.
