Been thinking since HS2 seems to have died the death in Manchester the opportunity to construct a north-eastern access to Piccadilly from Ashburys Philips park line.
Would be about 850 metres for the main viaduct between the Mancunian Way to Viaduct Street with probably around 200m of extension between Fairfield street and Travis Street.
Three 240m Platforms to the north of Platform 1 on the car park and new car park somewhere on Sheffield street to replace that.
Victoria to Piccadilly roughly 11 to 13 minutes if 20 miles per hour, or 9 to 10 minutes if upgraded to 35 miles an hour south of Philip park south junction.
Loss of around 5 to 9 minutes compared to current route from Salford Crescent depending on line speed and dwell times.
Divert the Blackpool and Southport Services onto this route (depends on TRU timetable)
Gain of three path at Oxford Road allows for return of all day 2 per hour Warrington stopper.
Flexibility of route between Stalybridge and Piccadilly.
A far from perfect solution but much more affordable than a tunnelled option.
