Maybe I'm missing something here, but the fares are:

£4.00 off-peak single
€4.70 anytime single
£6.80 First class anytime single
€9.10 First class anytime return
£9.40 standard class anytime return.

Is this one of the rare occasions when it is cheaper to buy a first class anytime return than buying anytime in standard class? How strange.

Guess I may as well take TPExpress first class, seems stupid for a short journey but still.

The £9.10 First Class Anytime Return is route TPE only, and issued to Manchester Piccadilly, unlike all the other tickets from Manchester Airport which are issued to Manchester Central Zone and route ANY PERMITTED.
