Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes service.

I don't know really if you could justify a Cleethorpes-Preston service, but I do believe that if the TPX, Northern, EMT, CrossCountry, East Coast, West Coast remap occurs, I think the Cleethorpes-Manchester service should be put into the EMT franchise, operating like the Norwich-Liverpool service as a cross-distance (four car) service evry hour, although some services could continue to Preston/Liverpool.
In my opinion though, if it were possible to keep the CLE-MIA through, so be it. Useful for the likes of the elderly and people with young children.

I think it's a Sheffield to Preston service that has previously been suggested that would be useful and perhaps even quite viable. I just thought that diverting the current Cleethorpes-Manchester Airport service to Preston would be the easiest way of achieving this. However, as trains between Sheffield and Manchester are regularly overcrowded perhaps an additional Nottingaham to Preston might be worthwhile. As I said before, now that Manchester-Blackpool via Bolton is to be electrified I don't think trains from the Hope Valley line to Preston will ever happen unless they run to Barrow in Furness.

My understanding is that proposal is the additional Sheffield-Manchester fast trains would be portion workings. There would still be a half-hourly fast service to Manchester from Sheffield but up to 4 destinations beyond Manchester with direct Sheffield services.

You might for instance have a pair of trains leaving Sheffield westbound. They'd stop and split at Chinley with one going to Preston via Marple and Victoria and one going to Liverpool via Stockport and Warrington.

I'm not convinced by David's idea of terminating TPE at Scunthorpe, it wouldn't really achieve much and I disagree that a 153 would be sufficient for the Cleethorpes - Scunthorpe leg, particularly in the summer when seemingly the whole of South Yorkshire flocks to Cleethorpes.

But maybe I'm just biased being of Grimsby origin.
