If you are tight on time to catch a train, my advice is to install the trainline app or similar on your phone. Or have your train tickets already.

I've seen massive queues for the ticket office and ticket machine.

You also need to allow for multiple trains at the same platform. If yours is the front train, you might need an extra minute or two even after you've got through the barriers.

The walkways aren't ever being fixed as apparently the parts are obsolete now

Given they've just modernised terminal 2 they should at least get the link between terminal 2 and the station replaced. They're claiming they are going to be one of only a handful of airports to be able to offer pre-departure USA clearance but can't even get moving walkways working!

I've found they seem to be the only airport where empty bottles/flasks and plugs can cause bags to be rejected in the security area. And the staff don't tell you to remove those items pre-scanning either. They obviously expect people to take through empty bottles, given the location of the bottle refilling facility just after security.

It is a shorter walk from ‘The Station’ as it is signposted, to Terminal 1 than it is to Terminal 2 and the newly modernised section of Terminal 2 is at the far end, making it an even further walk!

I always found it felt slightly quicker to walk at ground level than going up to the skylink bridge. Even taking into account using the pedestrian crossings.
