Just wondering if anyone knows the plans for the Manchester airport redevelopment.

I've been trying to find out what's happening online but can only find marketing spin stuff.

Seems 80% of passengers will use T2 - where will the other 20% go as sounds like T1 and T3 are closing or is T3 being retained?

Is there currently a pier at the far end of T2 with another, 'pier 2', being built mid way along?

What is happening to T1 post closure?

Talk of dual taxiways - will this need more space by removing T1 structures?

Cheers

Terminal 3 is being retained as the budget airline terminal. Terminal 1 is about 60 years old and it is definitely time for it to be demolished. I don't know about your other questions.

Interesting about T3 thanks - going to be lively in there at peak hen and stag party times!

Wonder if they'll extend the station walkway over to T3?

The plans for the redevelopment of T2, involve more than doubling the terminal building in size and internally remodelling the original part of the terminal.
The extension work has largely been completed, with the remaining internal remodelling work currently ongoing.

The first new T2 pier has been in use for more than a year already, but the downturn resulting from Covid, has slowed down the programme and only construction of the 2nd pier is currently underway at the moment.
The remaining 2 new T2 piers should also have been completed by this and next year, but they’ve not started on those and I’ve no idea what the delayed timescales are now.

The original plan was for T1 to be demolished eventually, following some redevelopment of T3, which is too small to accommodate even more low cost flights than it currently handles.

The new dual taxiways, providing better access to the T2 and cargo aprons, should be completed soon.

The links from the airport railway station to the terminals should be completely revised and improved IMHO.

Worst still, there are no plans for a rapid transit linking the terminals with the proposed airport HS2 station.
They seem to be banking on the proposed tram extension to the new station, to provide that facility, which is quite pathetic.
