Flying in to Manchester airport in a few weeks.

Looking at a northern advance ticket which I think should give me enough time to get bags etc.

What’s the policy if your flight is delayed and you miss your booked train?

With Northern, you'd officially need to buy a new ticket. Only Transpennine Express offer Airport Advance tickets, which give you a three hour buffer.

With Northern, buy a new one. Only TPE do the airport advance.

I normally buy whilst I’m in the baggage hall. Not usually any more expensive for the types of journeys you get Northern advances for.

Broadly 1 x TPE direct from Manchester Airport to Preston and 3 x Northern. Off Peak Day Single is £21.70. Just jump on the first train about to leave rather than stress about a single booked train.

It is highly likely that on the day advances will be available so you would be better booking that's once you have landed.

If you are going to book an advance ticket ahead of time then I would stick to TransPennine Express.
