Manager Invervirew vs Multi Modal interview

Hi all,

I've passed the first stage of testing for a train driver position. Next is the manager interview. After that I have reaction testing and a multi modal interview, assuming I pass.

My question is, what's the difference between the manager and the multi modal interview?

Hi there,

The Driver Manager Interview (DMI) is your 'company interview', so to speak, whilst the Multi-Modal Interview (MMI) is the UK-standard Train Driver interview, conducted by the OCP.

Both can be very similar, in that they are very safety focussed.

Expect to provide examples of you dealing with emergencies and solving critical problems in both interviews, although the Driver Manager Interview can vary depending on the Train Operating Company (TOC).

Have a read through the 'Becoming a Train Driver' thread at the top of the page to give you a greater insight into what to expect. You'll find it very handy!

In general you should prepare for both of these interviews in the same way, have lots of detailed examples of various situations you may be asked about to hand. I was asked many of the same questions for both interviews. The MMI is a box ticking exercise, whereby you need to provide the evidence that you are suitable for the role. The DMI is to establish whether THEY like you and think you are suitable for the role, have the right attitude, experience, and will buy into the company's values ie does your face fit?
