A quick question...

So I passed all the assessments this year including MMI. But I didn't get past the driver manager interview.
Is the manager interview included in the 2 strikes and your out rule or since I've passed the assessments can I have as many interviews now as possible?

Hi. The interview does not count as one of your strikes mate. You have the phsycometrics now for 5 years and they're recognized by all TOC's and FOC's, although some companies may as you for further or extra tests. I'm in your position too. Gutted to have fluffed my DM interview but got to be happy I don't have to sit the tests again. Hope I get another shot soon. I've taken the interview experience and built on it. Focusing on the weak points. Hope this helps.

I passed tests with freightliner but they don't meet standards for C2C depot driving (WAFV test) I hit green button by error a few times when the box changed or seemed to change for a long time to darker shades but nowhere near as dark as the black was

Just to confirm this doesn't use up one of the strikes as it was a pass with Freightliner?

Joof, Gazbangor, how did you find the interview and which areas do you think you may have failed on if you don't mind me asking. Thanks

I thought I did well in the interview, I had an answer for everything apart from when have you had to concentrate for long periods of time. I couldn't think of a good answer in time and came up with studying physics. It sounded good in my head but I don't think it came across as what I wanted it to. I have a much better answer now.
I found the MMI a much harder interview, the manager interview was more like a normal job interview but that's the one I failed. Dang :roll:

Okay mate, thanks for the feedback, and better luck next time I guess! I done my part one of my assessments last week but I'm pretty confident on those and assessments part 2 tbh! It's the interviews I ain't all that confident with, do you have any pointers or advice for them.. Would be greatł appreciated.

Managerial posts are the last thing I'd touch on the railway, it's probably one of the least safe positions and you're easy to move and/or despatched to the street.

If job cuts are on the cards then it's the managerial side that cops the brunt of it. It also loses you a lot of friends and you'll find that people won't talk to you as much, if at all and they'll always be exceptionally careful what's said in your presence.

If you've only got a couple of years left, before retirement, then it may be for you, but I know that having heard the way some of my managers have been spoken to by those elsewhere, I wouldn't put up with it and that's why there's a pretty good churn rate on my TOC.

I'm not particularly sure whether they mean Driver Manager as what used to be a "Traction Inspector" or other manager. Either way a manager's position isn't desirable anymore due to the pressure & the ease of removal or even movement to a depot that's a long way from home.

Interesting at first glance it would appear by driver manager they mean what we know as a DTM but when you read description, it clearly states candidates don't require driving knowledge so cant be a DTM unless stuff is done differently at TPE. Also would be suprising a DTM position was advertised externally, do they not usually recruit from internals only for DTMs?

Hi mate sorry for the late reply. To be honest it was the Nerves that got to me more than anything. I answered all questions but it's the way I came across more than anything. Would have liked some feedback but none given. I'm praying some more vacancies come up soon. I will certainly have my head firmly screwed on the next time I get a chance. I found the interview ok and strange at the same time. The HR woman ( Laura ) was lovely and very polite but the other guy was a production manager n just stared the whole way through. Made me feel very uncomfortable. Weather this is a good cop bad cop routine or something I have no idea. I should have been more thorough with my answers as well. It was not a good interview for me but onwards and upwards. Just want the positions to open up soon with more TOC's and FOC's

Hi all,
Joof, thats exactly how it was for me. I had loads of stuff i researched and could have said loads of stuff about myself but came away feeling that the interview was very quick and i didnt say half of what i expected to.
Lauras questions were fine but the guy digged at stuff and seemed to focus on irrelevant things like a depot name which i had forgot. Afterall we are not supposed to know it all at this stage. I came out with mixed feelings, I didnt mind relocating and working the hours, i understand a fair bit about the job. They just didnt proceed with my application.
