There is no part of any train that hangs below railhead level. Otherwise it'd smash into every point blade it passes over. Still not safe to lay in the 4' though.

It should be safe for you to lie on the sleepers as long as no part of you extends above the top of the rail.

If you look at level crossings, quaysides and anywhere that rail meets tarmac, the tarmac between the rails is flush with the top of the rails which is why the guy in the video didn't get killed

Gear cases, traction motors, AWS, TPWS antennae and other bits and bobs are actually closer than many people think. AWS antenna are only around 160mm from the rail head.

.... not that common on long passenger trains over there, he was lucky to see it never mind not get killed by it lol!

there are several videos like this from cameras in the four foot, mainly on steam railways.

I second what other members have said, i hope that this video dosent inspire some chav types to try and copy it, I remeber a few years ago a video appeared on youtube where a fellow stood in the middle of the 4 foot and when the train comes he jumps out the way a millisecond befroe the train arrives where hes standing, ill find the link if i can. that video inspired a few copy cats and a fellow was nearly killed in the process, i think that was in the states.

Ha ha ha, my thought's exactly - I presume a lot of the Eastern European trains still have these arrangements (although curry may not have caught on over there yet owing to cultural differences)!

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's a TPE 185 involved. The Sky1 programme Road Wars actually featured the clip on a section about rail crossings, and people who take stupid risks. It's an unbelievably close call, and I hate to think what the poor TPE driver must have felt afterwards.

Again, I can only second the thoughts of others. I just hope it doesn't inspire any copycats from those too stupid to appreciate the consequences of their actions, and the effect they could have on others.
