Today saw a lady almost collide with the stair lift as she climbed the steps from platform 14 at Piccadilly.

I'm not surprised; it's hard to see if the stairs are busy or you're focused on your baggage or feet, and you wouldn't expect to meet something sharp and heavy at head height.

A bit of black and yellow striped tape on the edge really isn't enough.

This is either an accident waiting to happen, or one that already has happened.

I've never seen this in use, and similar ones at Nottingham were only used while the main lifts were under refurbishment. Is this one that is only used if the main lift is unavailable, under staff supervision? If so then they should also be managing the flow of passengers on the stairs.

I'm pretty sure the current stairlift was installed when the main lift was out of action for maintinance recently. Prior to that there appeard to be remnants of a previous stairlift installation with the stairlift itself long gone.
