Hi

Does anybody remember travelling or working on the Malton to Driffield line?
If so I'd love to hear your stories and see any photos that are applicable to this railway line.
The line closed in 1958 but 'The Yorkshire Wolds Railway' society has planning permission to re-open a small section of the line as a heritage railway which will include a visitors centre housed in a BR carriage which is now in situ.

Last night an ex-railwayman called Stan who worked the line did a humourous and enjoyable presentation in Malton which was well attended.

The YWR are always looking for new volunteers/members (£12 per year, I joined last night) so check out the website.

PM if you can help with stories or pics.

Thanks
Tony

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
All the stations on the Malton and Driffield Railway were closed 63 years ago in 1950, so it will be unlikely if any forum member has memories of travelling on this line.

The stations on that line were at:-
Settrington
North Grimston
Wharram
Burdale
Sledmere and Fimber
Wetwang
Garton.

Freight traffic carried on until 1958.

Point taken but someone's grandad or father could have worked on the line and had a story to tell or spme pics. My dad's been gone a few years now but I can relay his war stories in as much detail as he did.
It's always worth asking.

There's a very good article entitled 'Malton, Memories of a Yorkshire Junction 1950-67' in this month's Backtrack magazine (March 2013).
