I am trying to get some clarification as to what 4468 Mallard was up to in 1977, hopefully someone here can help?

According to Wikipedia, A4 Pacific Mallard was on display at 'York Works' in 1977. I am assuming this was at Holgate Road? Does anyone know which dates exactly it was on display there? An Open Day or an extended period?

Mallard also hauled a special to York in 1975, did it remain in York until 1977 or did it haul any other specials in that time?

Thank you for your attention in these matters.

Mallard didn’t haul a special to York - it was hauled to York as part of one of the trains bringing ex-Clapham exhibits up to York Museum. It wasn’t put back into steam until the mid 1980’s.

It remained at York Museum during the late 1970’s/early 1980’s unless it was required to be an exhibit at Open Days, such as the two events you mentioned. It would have been hauled to and from the museum.

Unfortunately, Wiki is not a 100% reliable source of information and should always be regarded with caution.

As mentioned above Mallard was never in steam in 1975. It was also a noticeable absentee at the Rail 150 cavalcade on 31st August that year. The A4 class being represented by Sir Nigel Gresley.
