Now that MS in their wisdom have dumped the excellent first version of movie maker and given us the crap that come with W7 are there any other video editors about that work the same way? Preferably free.

Seems a quirky thing to me. The older one was much easier to use.

I seem to recall that the original MSWMM was originally distributed as an optional add-on for Windows, before they started including it as part of the operating system from XP Service Pack 1 onwards.
If I can dig out or turf up some form of original MSWMM installer package, I'll attach it here for anyone wishing to roll-back. 8)
