Majorca Trains and buses

Hi all, in 10 days time I am visiting the beautiful Balearic island of Majorca in Spain and I would like to know what the transport scene is like. I am aware of the Tren de Soller, along with the accompanying tram and plan on doing this on the 27th/28th Feb but if there is any other railway or buses that are worth checking out then please let me know in this thread, thankyou!

TIB-branded buses are all tap in/tap out contactless bank card, though the buses of EMT Palma (who run the A1 bus from Palma Airport to Palma, in particular) are cash only on board. There are however a few TVMs scattered around (at least one at the Airport and one upstairs outside the Estacio Intermodal).

One main railway line (Palma to Inca) which then splits into two, with one train per hour to Manacor, and another to Sa Pobla. On weekdays for most of the day you'll find a fairly frequent service on the Palma to Inca section - it's much reduced on weekends (just 1tph to each of Manacor/Sa Pobla, nothing additional terminating at Inca). Scenery-wise, it's quite pleasant once you're past Inca.

There's one Metro line to ParcBit - it's not all that thrilling but again, fairly frequent on weekdays. It's more limited on Saturdays with nothing at all on Sundays.

Metro/train is again tap in/tap out contactless, so easy enough to do. You could very easily complete the network in a day with time to wander around if you wished.

All trains/Metro services (and long distance bus services branded with the TIB logo) leave from Estacio Intermodal in Palma.

Double check the Soller website, as I was caught out because the train wasn't running due to engineering works (the tram was).

The best "normal" train journey is probably Palma to Manacor. I did this and then continued east by bus to the coast. Think the whole journey there and back tapping on and off was about 5 Euros.

Nothing is showing past the 23rd sadly, but I believe from looking on their website you can only book a week in advance?

For those normal trains there s not any need to prebook-as now using bankcards with TITO (tap in+out) also indicates. Same-same as paying for a London Bus!
Its a long time ago since I have done that ride-indeed when there very much a ´to do´ thing-also for non-rail-fans: the antique Soller tram. It may-to prevent gross overcrowding on busy days, perhaps nowadays be needed to ´reserve´ a seat-or there may be group tours or the like. I guess their website will tell that then. But late feb. is not really peak-high-season.

Same as where I live then in regards to TO-TO. And that's a useful feature to have, I'll definitely look online beforehand for availability, I can't imagine late Feb/early March will be all *that* busy but we'll have to see!

Looks as if you can only get a stored value ticket if you live in Mallorca. Single cash tickets from the driver are a minimum of €3 - oof. But the train and metro rickets are the same cost whether you tap-in or buy a paper ticket
