On 1130 from KX. 30 late approaching stoke tunnel.

Slow line from Peterborough to Tallington. Seems that up fast is also closed as all trains passing have been on up slow.

Overtook the strikes Hull Trains unit just south off Helpston (?). Very strong smell of diesel got into this train. It must be awful on the affected unit. . .

Just got home from work, and got stuck at Helpston crossing due to the delays...

As others have posted, there was a Hull Train stuck there, and all Northbound trains were approaching on the Down Slow / Stamford Line.

Would have stopped to take a photo, but was "ushered" on by other car drivers!!! :)

They also had some issue at Stevenage at around 13.00 and at the same time the 13.00 from King's Cross failed on departure and eventually everyone turfed off at 13.40

Looking at OTT there's a 1Z13 in the area, is that anything to do with this incident?

Just had a quick look on Google Maps:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/52°39'03.2"N+0°21'39.8"W/@52.6508865,-0.3632304,586m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d52.6508833!4d-0.3610417

Where's the general area of the incident in relation to them lakes and the canal? If it's in that area then could there be some environmental concerns as to where the leaked diesel has gone/is going?

Serivces are diverting via the slow lines north then coming back on so it is a bit further south from where you map is

Rather unpleasant for passengers. We often see failed trains and a delay of a couple of hours and people often moan about the wait and sadly it is understandable why things might take a couple of hours to get them off the train. But 4 hours is venturing in the realms of unacceptable, especially in poor conditions.
It’s good to know things are safe as things like that can go quite wrong, the fumes will be really quite awful on board but the fire risk is much lower than a lot of people will be thinking.

In other news. I’m placing a bet that that train doesn’t go back into service until June yet they’ll only cancel services last minute on a day to day basis.

Can a 180 limp along on a single engine (to the nearest suitable location eg station to evac passengers)?

The object it must have hit must have been around Werrington Junction area, just North of PBO for the train to have stopped at Helpston.

Might have been something thrown off one of the Green or White bridges in the area - for those that are local - as the 1st level crossing you get to North of Peterborough is at Woodcroft, just south of Helpston.

And IF it was on the main line south of Werrington Jct, then it would have probably been spotted by a driver of a passing Spalding or Lincoln service...??

Just a thought - as that Green Bridge is notorious for "incidents"

With the object having ruptured 3 fuel tanks, has it also done major damage to some of the other underfloor equipment?

According to Hull Trains (via the BBC) it was a catastrophic engine failure.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-42273167

Dozens of passengers were aboard the 09:48 service, with Hull Trains blaming a "catastrophic engine failure".

Engineers initially thought the train had struck something, but it later emerged it had suffered engine problems.

A Hull Trains spokesperson said: "We have now been able to move passengers on to another train which will take them to Peterborough and on to their destinations."
