Not too sure if this is worthy of its own thread (MODS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MERGE/DELETE etc) but I have received this from NR. 4 months of work on the stretch of WCML between Preston and Lancaster.

We work 24/7 to keep the railway running for passengers and freight, when the timetable is the quietest. Our work is often noisy, late at night and at weekends. We do our best to keep noise and disruption to a minimum and we try to be considerate by giving you as much notice as possible.
The nature of the tasks means we can’t prevent all noise, but our teams will try to minimise this as much as possible. We’re sorry if we disturb you.

21:30pm? How long have the railways been using the 24-hour clock?
Anyway, thanks for the info!

Not sure but that is a direct copy of the letter I received. Quite a few cuttings and embankments in the area , so some drainage work is probably needed.

Seems rather inconsistent from NR.

Sometimes on Saturday they start at 11:40 in the evening. A couple of times its 11:30 in the evening and then it changes again to 21:30. I would have thought with the exception of the Saturday night to Monday morning closure, which looks pretty logical to me, they should all read 23:40 Saturday to 09:20 Sunday?

Am I reading the above info correctly when saying that not many train services on the WCML will actually likely be affected by this?

You are indeed.

Last couple of trains on a Saturday night will be affected for the 21:30 starts, and obviously the March weekend closure, but other than that that's pretty much the Saturday night closure times for the north WCML anyway
