Maintenance Operatives, Technicians and Team Leaders

Hello all

I am interested in applying for a maintenance role. I have some questions if anyone can help?

What is the difference between operative and technician?
What is a typical shift pattern?
How much extra money a year do you make with the shift premiums ect on top of the basic salary?

Hi sthilhere, If you are asking about rolling stock, generally an operative is someone who (cleans / other duties) the train.
Generally speaking a technician is someone who carries out maintenance, repairs, fault finding.

Generally the shift patterns i have worked have been 4 on 4 off nights and days or something similar.

Shift premiums depends on the company or TOC, but again I would generally say, it would roughly be around £4000 - £6000.
