If you could choose any heritage class of loco or a specific locomotive to be mainline registered, which would you choose?

Mine would be Class 26s & 27s.

I can hear 27001 & 27056 spluttering up to Rannoch Moor, how magical that would be.

Any heritage EMU really.

In particular it'd have to be a CEP on a railtour with an MLV at each end to meet any safety barrier requirement, that way its still authentic!

I would like to see a class 101 or something from that era. I think the barrier rule for Mk1 derived vehicles is looking at being relaxed (any news/progress on this?) so this would make it a real possibility. After all, there is a Hastings Thumper DEMU that does mainline railtours.

I'll jump on the small Sulzer bandwagon and say 26/27. En route to the West Highland Line any tour with these on should go via the G&SWR main line for old times' sake.

Like the sound of the G&SW, but a wee pair of beasties attacking Beattock from the South makes sound to the ears.

The avatar gives it away for me. I'm possibly in a minority in saying that I'd like mine in NSE livery though.

Not a loco - but an APT, please.

+1

I was thinking about the APT earlier, and I realised they missed a trick with the power cars, they should have put a cab in them too, so then they could run half sets off peak

I'd love to see the badger in service. Running up and down the East Coast.

I also can't wait to see the HST prototype in service again :D

I like the suggestion of DP1 as well

Jaffa cake livery...namely because I never saw it

t.

Ian

I'd love to see a CEP in Jaffa Cake livery again (it was only used on the longer distance units) as it's been so long since I've seen it.

It's strange how some defunct liveries never seem to go out of fashion in preservation, yet others you never see again

I'd love a mixed set of heritage EMUs using 308/307/312 vehicles, or one of the 309s.

Surely with the number of class 108s and such like in preservation something similar to Chiltern's 121s could be done on some minor branch somewhere? Marlow branch or a segregated line like that.
