Maidstone East via Charlton?

This was at least fifteen years ago (and probably longer), but still...
I took a winter early evening peak service from Victoria to Maidstone East and I looked out of the window at one point and I'm *sure* we were going through Charlton. Now I've looked on Quail and this doesn't seem to be possible.
Is there a very underused route, or one that's closed since then, that might have been used as a diversion?

Hmm, the only way I could think of it happening would be if it took the route through Nunhead and Blackheath onto the north Kent line towards Dartford, the Crayford Spur onto the Dartford Loop, then the south facing spur at Hither Green onto the Tonbridge main line, then the Chiselhurst Loop back onto the Maidstone East route.

Are you sure they didn't just divert you to Maidstobe West instead ?

No, we definitely ended up at East And only about five minutes late too. I'm trying to think what other station it might be, that starts with a C and ends in N...

Maybe you got diverted along the Catford loop and caught a glimpse of Crofton Park

Incedentally, what sort of unit were you on? A VEP?

Definitely wasn't Crofton Park, I was well used to that route.
I'm pretty sure it was 2x 4-VEP

I do the route through to Ashford fairly regularly and I can't really think of anywhere it might be. Unless you went via Lewisham and Chiselhurst.

Yes it was usually a VEP for me. I rather miss them.
