Just wondering the next time i have to purchase this type of ticket would it be better to use contactless as the magstripe seems to fail easily as i have been stuck at a unmanned tfl
station with no staff to assist

It depends on what journeys you're planning to make and whether you have a railcard.

If you can tell us more about your plans we can advise.

Get yourself a TOC Smartcard, much more reliable to have a One Day Travelcard on.
Agreed, but I still wait for the time when I can purchase a Stevenage to London Zones 1-6 Super Off Peak Travelcard on a smartcard!

If only there was a TOC smartcard that made it easy to buy tickets from various retailers online.

Considering that RDG want rid of magstripe CCST tickets and TfL do not want to entertain e-tickets it seems that a rather obvious solution would be to replace CCST for travelcards and other cross-London tickets with tickets fulfilled to re-usable smartcards (or even single use smartcards) but I'm not a rail industry insider so what do I know?

One issue with that is that Zones 7-9 are currently fudged in rail industry systems by using a route code rather than as location codes like other zonal combinations are. As such, presumably a Travelcard with validity in Zones 7-9 that's loaded onto a Smartcard is likely to be interpreted by LU gatelines as only being valid to Zone 6.

A recent trial with handheld barcode readers at certain NR/LU interchanges says otherwise.

In the long term they'll also be involved in the RDG-led project to create "Barcode 2.0" for (non-Travelcard?) cross-London tickets.

I’ve never had a magstripe ticket failure, so it may be because of the way you save your tickets, just a thought.

Railcard discounted CCST tickets never work the barriers at Stevenage station so I suspect the same set up is in place at Huntingdon.

Where else is the tickeyt not working the barriers?
