Macclesfield to Holyhead via Stafford

Is this is a permitted route? 1 change, CrossCountry > Avanti

I'm not getting anywhere with journey planners, insisting on routing via Kidsgrove and Crewe.

NRE brings up the result based on timing but with no tickets available.

Unfortunately not a valid route. The valid routes are via Stockport and Crewe/Altrincham, or via Kidsgrove/Stoke and Crewe.

It would make sense for it to be a permitted route since it's the only one-change option, but that's not how the Routeing Guide works!

If NRE won't return a through fare, that's generally because it's a journey that doesn't follow a permitted route.

The Macclesfield to Crewe leg is something like 22 miles if interchanging at Kidsgrove. More like 60 miles via Stafford.

If you're looking to avoid Kidsgrove and/or more than one change, I would highly recommend starting your journey from Wilmslow and changing at Crewe.

The up Avanti connects nicely with the Holyhead in most occasions. However you'd need to drive / get a lift as it's a 20 min drive between the two stations.

It's always open to the OP to buy separate Macclesfield to Stafford and Stafford to Holyhead tickets if limiting to only a single change is the important thing.

The forum's site will do this seamlessly; you could specify maximum one change to achieve this, or specify via Stafford as a via point.

We will issue all tickets in one handy PDF and seat selection is also possible on both services.

This just hadn't occurred to me as an option, and we'll be on the right side of Macclesfield for that too. Taxi ~£20 so when the time comes that's what we'll do...

Also 150 from 24/11 but only a few services per day through to Wilmslow.
