I've just been checking my journey home and all direct trains between Maastricht and Liège are showing as part-cancelled (so still running from Aachen) tomorrow morning. No mention on NS or Arriva NL's websites, while SNCB's website is helpfully down for maintenance. Anyone got any idea what's going on?

Very odd!

SNCB temporary arrangement ended and Arriva haven't got their defective units back in service?!

That's interesting. It was an SNCB train on the way in on Sunday, and the schedules were all duplicated.

No clue what's going on here. Today's last train from Aachen to Liège definitely terminates short at Maastricht. For tomorrow, only www.bahn.de mentions the issues, while AVV's journey planner (https://auskunft.avv.de), which is usually quite decent, doesn't say anything. Based on my experience I wouldn't be surprised if the services are cancelled at extremely short notice without alternatives. (AVV = Aachener Verkehrsverbund)

Some time last year, a RE18 from Aachen to Liège was advertised as being on time on the platform's departure board in Aachen, but the train simply didn't show up, with a confused crowd left standing in vain. Also no mention on the relevant websites. There weren't even announcements. Perhaps the railway employees were baffled as well.

SNCB's website is helpfully down for maintenance.
I have the feeling that this website is down way too often, at least when I'm in Belgium. The last time when I travelled in Belgium my train was delayed, no guard on board I couldn't locate guard, and website down...

Edit: Thanks @MarcVD for the correction with the guard.

It looks like something goes wrong with the data. At the NS website there are engineering works mentioned in the evening, but that's only towards Liège.
Looking at treinposities.nl trains are cancelled both towards Aachen and towards Liège in the departure information for Maastricht, but oddly they are all mentioned twice (the 189xx number is the regular train, 3189xx is a replacement train on part of the route in Dutch train numbering convention)

SNCB application shows all trains from Liège to Maastricht running all day tomorrow. There is a RRB in the Netherlands (north of Vise) for the last trip of the day ay 22h08.

In the other direction it shows all trains running except RRB for the last two of the day.

If you travel frequently to Belgium I strongly suggest that you install the SNCB app on your mobile device.

I hope so. Plan B is going via Aachen which then relies on an ICE running on time so that I don't miss Eurostar check-in.

Hopefully just a data glitch...

Would going via Eindhoven and Breda be an option?

DB Navigator is showing some very long journey times (3-4h) for that route. It would probably be more expensive too, as I accidentally left my NS coupon at home, whereas I still have a DB one from a previous trip which I could combine with the SNCB one for the ICE from Aachen, therefore only paying for the RE18.

At least the ICE (once onboard) is fast enough compared with the Belgian IC service that it can regain some of the ground lost by the Aachen dogleg.

It looks like it is. Early this morning trains until 10.00 hrs were shown as running, at the moment trains till 14.00 hrs are shown as running.
Though all under the 3189xx numbers in Maastricht, so likely a change is required there.

Venlo - Mönchengladbach is bustituted as all cargo and ICE trains are diverted via that single track line and there is no space for the RE13 anymore. So that will take some time indeed.

Well-just came back from Aachen-on this ARV which was today also still labelled as only going as far as Maastricht. NO info whatsoever on how to proceed from there.
Plan to go to Liëge next monday-and onward, so we´ll see how it turns out-cannot be that much worse as what it was this early morning coming from home to Germany.
A small but fine detail: ARV ran ALL trains in 30-mins frequency on the Aachen line-whereas cancellations and down to hourly was more or less the norm the last weeks in the mornings.

The service was split at Maastricht (SNCB forward to Liege) when I travelled on 10 June (easy same platform connection) so this looks to have perhaps been going on for a while?

Yes, and this had been fine until Tuesday but for some reason the restarted service wasn't shown that morning

Then yesterday morning: my arr. in Maastricht was +30-as there were still problems with the tunnel in Rotterdam-forcing me to detour. Then the 10.17 train arrived from Aachen, labelled as ´Maastricht´ then Aachen RE 18- whereas the screen on platform showed Liege- there was a fair crowd and they started to ask what it would be- untill it was confirmed it would be southbound to Belgium indeed. So my guess is driver was not aware of the (since that day apparently) through running and set signs wrongly. In the end it all went smoothly and even the order of the announcements-in 3 languages, was changed to FRench first when in Belgium/Wallonie.
