Does anyone know if the buses from Maastricht airport take cash?

And if not is it possible to buy the prepay chip card at the airport, and with which means of payment?

Thanks

Goede morgen van Maastricht!

Yes, you can pay for the bus with cash. Try and have small change. A ticket to the centre of town should cost 2.50. Take the lijn 59 to central station. If you arrive on a Saturday and miss one bus, you will have to wait an hour for the next one. You may want to consider finding a few people to share a cab to the centre. It should cost around 25 euro for 4 people.

For more information on public transport in the Netherlands check out http://9292.nl/

They also have a good mobile app.

Let me know if you need more Maastricht help!

Thank you - what about the 50 to Aachen? Is that chip card only as the 9292 website suggests, or can you use cash?

Despite all the hype about the OV-Chipkaart, I don't there is any bus in NL that doesn't accept cash. It may just cost a lot more.

http://www.veolia-transport.nl/limburg/kaarten-en-tarieven/buskaarten/ritkaarten/index.html

says that you can get a 'Ritkaart' for all Veolia buses in Zuid-Limburg. In other parts of the country, Ritkaarten are usually not valid for changes, but here you are allowed one change. It might actually be €4 as the airport is outside the city. www.9292.nl says that the OV-Chipkaart fare is €2.72 so it unlikely that the €2.50 Ritkaart will be valid, however it is not unknown for Ritkaarts to be cheaper.

If you are going on from Maastricht to Aachen you might be better off with a EU-Regio ticket, especially at weekends where 2 people can use the same ticket. This will be valid for local transport in Aachen too. The €4 ticket might work too but I'm not sure if it would be valid to Germany and you might exceed the time limit.

http://www.veolia-transport.nl/limb...en/buskaarten/dagkaarten-z-limburg/index.html

says you can get a day ticket for Zuid-Limburg plus a single trip to Germany for €5.50, or a return to Germany for €7.

The bus driver was happy to sell me the €5.50 ticket which I would never otherwise have known about had I not asked here. So thank you!

Yes, as it's distance based. You pay a boarding charge then a fixed rate per km. London Buses are flat fare

Can i buy the euregio ticket on the airport bus?

Euregiotickets should be available from any bus Veolia bus driver in Limburg, south of Roermond, so should be available on buses from Maastricht Aachen Airport.

http://www.veolia-transport.nl/limburg/kaarten-en-tarieven/treinkaarten/euregioticket/

"In Nederland geldig in alle bussen in het zuiden van Limburg tot en met Roermond en in de treinen (2e klas) op de Heuvellandlijn (Maastricht Randwyck-Kerkrade Centrum)"

In the Netherlands, valid in all buses in the south of Limburg as far as Roermond and on trains on the Maastricht to Kerkrade line.

http://www.veolia-transport.nl/limburg/kaarten-en-tarieven/buskaarten/index.html

"In Limburg kunt u in de bus reizen met de OV-chipkaart, maar ook met een papieren kaartje. Er zijn verschillende papieren kaartsoorten, namelijk Ritkaarten, Dagkaarten Noord- en Midden-Limburg, Dagkaarten Zuid-Limburg en het Euregioticket. Deze kaartjes zijn te koop bij de chauffeur in de bus."

In Limburg, you can travel by bus with an OV-Chipkaart as well as a paper ticket. There are different types of ticket, Ritkaarts, Dagkaarts (North and Central Limburg), Dagkaarts (South Limburg) and the Euregioticket. These tickets can be bought from the bus driver.
